Very interesting to see it’s appeared in French. The French have outstanding form for mathematics – or at least they did until 1914-18 and to quite an extent after (Bourbaki group etc). So it’ll be very interesting to see what they make of your book, for instance whether it’ll be used in schools, colleges and so forth.
They also have won more than a fair share of Fields Medals!
Have they! I’m not surprised – I’ve often wondered what it is about France which was and is so conducive to mathematics. We in the UK haven’t done too badly over the last 3-400 years I suppose but France seems exceptional. Whenever I study your subject I keep running up against French names!
I guess it’s no coincidence they were the first to try and set up a government along strictly rational lines (French Revolution) when most of the rest of Europe was being run by various forms of monarchy, i.e. feudal fealty, Divine Right etc.
